Researchers in Sudbury say interruptions in physiotherapy over the weekend can set elderly patients back in their recovery. The study concluded that additional weekend physiotherapy improves elderly patients’ physical function and gets them physically ready for discharge when medically stable, which could reduce the alternate level of care for patients. The lead researcher also believes hiring more physiotherapists is an inexpensive way to help ALC patients recover faster and free up hospital beds. The study was passed on to hospital management for consideration.
