The Ontario government pledged an additional 2,000 beds and spaces to improve care access, reduce wait times and assist in the transition from hospital to home. The provincial health minister outlined what the $140 million in new funding will supply:
- Providing 207 senior housing units to provide community support when they're discharged from hospital;
- Creating 503 transitional care spaces for up to 1,700 patients who don't require hospital care; and
- Reopening 225 beds at two closed Toronto hospitals to provide care for those transitioning out of hospital.
