Ontario youth mental health survey finds almost half miss school because of anxiety

The Children and Youth Mental Health survey found 62% of youth reported having concerns about anxiety and 46% of them report missing school because of it. While 33% of parents said they had a child who missed school because of anxiety, 25% of parents reported having to miss work to care for a child with anxiety issues. Other findings include:

  • Forty percent of youth sought help but almost half of them didn't receive it;
  • Fifty percent% of youth who sought help found it challenging to get mental health services;
  • Fifty percent of parents had concerns about their child's anxiety; and
  • Forty percent of parents who sought help for their child are still waiting.
