P.E.I. psychiatric hospital undergoes further delayed, scaled-back plans

The new psychiatric hospital in P.E.I. experienced further delays and cost increases, leading to a scaled-back design. The facility, which is part of a mental health campus in Charlottetown, is now expected to open between late 2027 and early 2028. The original Hillsborough Hospital, built in the 1950s, is being replaced to improve mental health services and reduce stigma. The project was a promise of the Progressive Conservatives during the 2019 election campaign, but construction is only set to begin this fall.
