Canada's Chief Public Officer of Health says the country's life expectancy may be decreasing for the first time in decades as a result of the opioid crisis. In her report, Dr. Theresa Tam said nearly 4,000 Canadians died as from opioid overdoses in 2017, equivalent to 11 Canadians dying each day. She said PHAC is analyzing the impact of the opioid crisis on overall life expectancy to get the national picture.
