This white paper by the University of Waterloo discusses the role pharmacists might play in smoking-cessation programs. It points out that pharmacists could be providing counselling on quitting strategies, making self-care recommendations and prescribing medications. It adds that pharmacists' role as community-facing healthcare professionals makes them ideally suited to provide support to individuals trying to quit tobacco. The paper proposes a unified framework and to harmonize the tools and resources available to pharmacists across Canada for a consistent level of care across all provinces.
