The Canadian Association of Physician Assistants published a report card in which it claims only three provinces, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario, are doing a good job integrating the profession into the healthcare system. Of those jurisdictions that CAPA considers "needs improvement," only New Brunswick allows PAs to practice and has licensing and certification policies in place. The association contends that with many patients not having a primary care provider, governments should expand the role of PAs to provide better access to care and reduce wait times while lowering cost to the health system.
