Atlantic House Calls is a fee-for-service healthcare practice that began its operations in May 2017 in Saint John. It aims to serve patients with mobility issues, anxiety issues, those who don't have access to a family physician, or who want to avoid long wait times. The cost of a house call ranges from $75 on weekdays after hours, and $95 for a weekend visit. The company’s owner, a certified cardiovascular nurse and diabetes educator, gets as many as eight calls per week. The fee is paid by the patient, as NB Medicare doesn't cover the service. The company recently became an approved Medavie Blue Cross provider, so a portion of the house call fee can be reimbursed for members. The company’s owner says her success highlights different funding models that are available to nurse practitioners.
