A community group partnered with leaders from Horizon to develop a sustainable health service delivery, with the goal of restoring a 24/7 ED at Sackville Memorial Hospital. As part of the collaboration:
- An executive director was hired to support the initiative by focusing on retention, improving rotations for nurses, bringing efficiencies to the ED to reduce wait times and the number of patients who leave without being seen. These efforts will include cross-training LPNs to work in the ED;
- A manager was hired to provide educational opportunities and the facility is recruiting for a full-time educator to provide mentorship to the units; and
- A steering committee was established to discuss, monitor and collaborate on the initiatives and to ensure Horizon receives feedback to find solutions.
