Physician assistants, which are allowed to work in Man. and Ont., are paired with physicians and can examine patients, order diagnostic tests, assist in surgical procedures and do paperwork. The Sask. government is considering allowing physician assistants to work and be regulated in the province to take some pressure off doctors, reduce wait times and allow clinics to receive more patients. Some raised questions as to whether they’re needed, given Sask. has multiple NPs who believe they can fill that role.
