As 38% of children and youth in the province reported a decline in their mental health because of the pandemic, the province’s Mental Health Capacity Building initiative will expand to additional schools this fall. The province invested an additional $800,000 in fiscal year 2022-23 in the program, bringing annual funding to $2 million. Five schools in Saskatchewan were initially selected as pilot sites and resource hubs as they partnered with other schools, communities and healthcare providers. The school divisions receive funding to hire school coordinators and wellness promoters to work in the schools. The program has staff being responsible for promotion and prevention programming.
