Over the next five years, the funds will aim to shift the delivery of care from hospitals to community health centres and improve access to palliative and end-of-life care. The deal also sets out what the province will do with the first installment of $349 million the federal government committed as part of an earlier agreement. The money will support community health centres and team-based home healthcare, as well as addiction medicine services, community recovery teams and crisis teams. It’ll also fund innovative solutions such as internet-based cognitive behaviour therapy to treat anxiety disorders and other mental health issues. The federal government plans to track the progress of each province and territory’s home care and mental health funding through a set of common indicators currently in development.
