A Senate report recommends Ottawa conduct research into how psychedelics can assist veterans suffering from PTSD. The report states Canada’s falling behind other countries, such as the U.S. and Australia, that already began studying how psychedelics can assist patients. Alta. is the only province to issue guidelines on the use of psychedelics. About 10% to 15% of Canadian veterans were diagnosed with PTSD. The suicide rate for male veterans is 50% higher than the general population, stands at 200% for female veterans and is 250% higher for male veterans under the age of 25.
