The Vancouver facility is the first in B.C. to implement the technology from Toronto-based patient engagement software company SeamlessMD. The software provides patients with reminders leading up to surgery, a daily check-in to track progress post-surgery (symptoms and pain levels), feedback on how to care for themselves and an education library with multimedia to help patients recover at home. St. Paul’s is considered a leader in colorectal surgery nationally, will be assessing if the software reduces length of stay, readmissions and costs while improving patient satisfaction. It already uses SeamlessMD’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in an effort to hasten and improve patient recovery after major abdominal surgery.
