An all-time high of 95,800 healthcare jobs were vacant in Q4 of 2022, more than twice the 2019 Q4 figure of 40,100. Two-thirds of vacancies were for nurses and support workers. The Canadian Nurses Association warns the situation will only get worse if changes aren’t made. It says nurses will leave the healthcare system to work in other areas and the quality and patient safety will be impacted.
