Think Research is Toronto startup that developed software to give physicians alternatives to opioids when treating patients undergoing surgery. The technology recommends pain treatments and care options that de-emphasize the need for powerful painkillers. These may include regional anaesthetics for surgeries on a patient's extremities or the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. For the next six months, the software will be tested in Thunder Bay, where the opioid overdose rate is higher than the provincial average.
