U of T to create Canada's first learning health system

University of Toronto researchers want to address hospital overcrowding by turning a community hospital system into the country’s first learning health system. They spent two years talking to people with complex medical needs and time with patients and their families to understand what good care means to them. They used the data from the community and three hospitals to create indicators and dashboards to improve care and planning The researchers are part of an increasing wave of public health and health systems researchers who believe that in order to translate findings into real, timely change, they must have an intimate understanding of - and relationship with - institutions and communities they wish to influence.
