U.S.-based patient experience performance agency Press Ganey says providers can build toward sustainable transformation by breaking down silos between elements of care and identifying and acting on areas of overlap. Its blueprint for providers who want to transform how they provide care includes six guiding principles on what they can use to take advantage of the links between experience, safety, quality and workforce engagement to drive change:

  1. Set "Zero Harm" as the goal;
  2. Embrace patient-centered care;
  3. Acknowledge that safety, quality and patient-centricity are the crucial elements of patient experience, and study how they interact;
  4. Take advantage of analytics - and be transparent;
  5. Extend transformation to internal culture and leadership; and
  6. Put a focus on accountability to achieving improvement goals.
