Intermountain Medical Center reports that patients with low-risk blood clots may be better off receiving treatment at home instead of being admitted to the hospital. The study tracked patients who were treated for acute pulmonary embolisms or serious lung blood clots at its ERs. Patients with a low risk of developing severe complications were given an outpatient management strategy instead of being admitted. The study finds that virtually all (99.5%) the enrolled patients had no follow-up incidents that required hospitalization while also reporting high levels of satisfaction with their care.
