Yukon's Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) found the territorial's department of health and social services committed overreach when it demanded detailed patient data in response to a physician's billing request. The IPC admits the Yukon government has the right for some patient information to verify doctors' billing claims. However, in at least one instance in 2016, it found that the territory went too far in asking for an unredacted clinical record, complete with diagnostic interviews and exams, as well as a written medical history, the patient's mental status and treatment recommendations. IPC recommended the Yukon health department review its practice of collecting clinic records as well as address its information security concerns.
