About

This indicator is the percentage of students in grades K to 5 who have been diagnosed with a learning exceptionality or a special education need. Survey responses are provided by the parent.

Source

New Brunswick Health Council, Student Wellness and Education Survey, Grades 4-5

Calculations

This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of respondents who selected any of the responses in the list "Has your child been diagnosed with any of the following learning exceptionalities or special education needs? Please select all that apply: Autism/Asperger Syndrome, behavioural disorder, blind or low vision, deaf or hard-of-hearing, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD), intellectual disability, language/speech impairment, learning disability, physical disability, mental health disability, gifted, other" by the total number of respondents.

Notes

The 2019-2020 edition of this survey was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the number of schools that participated is much lower than other editions of the survey, results at the provincial level were deemed not representative of the total student population. Therefore, survey results for New Brunswick, health zones and demographic groups are not available for the 2019-2020 edition. However, results are available for communities in which the number of participating schools was deemed sufficient to be representative of the student population in that community.
