The New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC) is excited by the return of the long form to the 2016 Census. The greater the participation rate, the more information that’s available to understand and respond to the health and wellness needs of New Brunswickers. Census information on the households, families, activities, and economic status of residents is analyzed by the NBHC and shared with other organizations through tools such as the Community Profiles.
"The profiles contain information about housing conditions, language, transportation and employment, all of which have an impact on the health of the population of New Brunswick, as well as future demand for health system services," says Stéphane Robichaud, CEO of the NBHC. "Municipalities, health authorities, wellness networks and community organizations use this information to develop policies, develop recreation options, support youth in healthy choices and prioritize funds to contribute to better health for New Brunswickers, and to services to specific demographic groups."
The NBHC encourages anyone who hasn’t yet completed their census form to do so by Tuesday, May 10, to ensure that the information used in future research is complete and accurate. Anyone wishing to view the current Community Profiles can do so at nbhc.ca/community-profiles.
The NBHC has been established as an independent organization that measures, monitors and evaluates New Brunswick’s health system performance through a citizen-centered dual mandate of performance measurement and citizen engagement.
