About

This indicator is the percentage of students in grades K to 5 who identify as Indigenous, as reported by a parent or guardian.

Source

New Brunswick Health Council, Student Wellness and Education Survey, Grades 4-5

Calculations

This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of respondents who answered "yes" by the number of respondents who answered "yes or no" to the question: Does your child identify with any of the following groups? Indigenous (First Nations, Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqewiyik, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Inuit, or Métis descent)

Notes

Due to the very low response rate for the 2023-2024 parent questionnaire, survey results are deemed to be not representative of the overall student and parent population. Therefore, results at the school, district, sector, and provincial levels are not to be used for planning or comparing to previous editions of the survey. Some schools will not receive their K to 5 results due to the extremely low number of parents who responded.

Note about the 2023-2024 data:
In 2023, the NBHC undertook a review of the demographic questions in the Student Wellness and Education Survey. As such, starting in 2023-2024, the percentage of parents or guardians who report that their child identifies with this particular group may differ from previous cycles.
