About

This indicator is the percentage of students in grades 6 to 12 who have a high or moderate level of resilience. Students are given a 'total resilience score' based on their responses to 12 individual questions, and a cutoff is used to identify students with a high or moderate level of resilience.

Calculations

This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of respondents who have a total resilience score higher than a specified cutoff by the number of respondents who described their feelings and ideas for at least 6 of the following 12 questionnaire items: I am able to solve problems without harming myself or others, I know where to go in my community to get help, getting an education is important to me, I try to finish what I start, I have people I look up to, my parent/caregiver know a lot about me, my family stands by me during difficult times, my friends stand by me during difficult times, I have opportunities to develop skills that will be useful later in life, I am treated fairly in my community, I feel I belong(ed) at my school and I enjoy my cultural and family traditions. The response options for these 12 items are: not at all, a little, somewhat, quite a bit and a lot.

Notes

Users are advised to exercise caution if comparing data from the community of Grand Bay-Westfield, Westfield, Greenwich Area to other New Brunswick communities. The data for the community of Grand Bay-Westfield, Westfield, Greenwich Area is based on students in grades 6 to 8, while data from the other communities are based on students in grades 6 to 12. Survey results are assigned to communities based on the location of the school. The community of Grand Bay-Westfield, Westfield, Greenwich Area does not have any schools with grades 9 to 12.
