About

This indicator is the percentage of students in grades 6 to 12 who are susceptible to smoking [among those who have never tried it].

Source

New Brunswick Health Council, Student Wellness and Education Survey - Grades 6-12

Calculations

This indicator is based on respondents who have never tried smoking. This indicator combines the responses to the following 3 questions: 'Do you think in the future you might try smoking cigarettes?', 'If one of your best friends was to offer you a cigarette would you smoke it?' and 'At any time during the next year do you think you will smoke a cigarette?'. The response options to these 3 questions are: 'definitely not, probably not, probably yes and definitley yes'. This indicator is calculated by dividing the number of respondents who answered 'probably not, probably yes and definitley yes' to at least 1 of the 3 questions by the number of respondents who answered all 3 questions.
